We prioritize children, pregnant women, and parents of children who are Unity Care NW patients in order to break the intergenerational cycle of dental caries. Because dental caries or “cavities” are caused by bacteria that can be spread within the household, we focus on treating the whole family.

Unity Care NW offers a Sliding Fee Discount Program to help keep care affordable for uninsured patients and those with high deductibles and co-pays. Eligibility for the Sliding Fee Discount Program is based on household size and income.

Adult dental care is one of the most needed but least available services in Whatcom County. An estimated 45,000 Whatcom County residents lack access to dental care. Unity Care NW has expanded its dental facilities in recent years, but we are still only able to meet a small portion of the need. We are committed to continuing to work with the community to expand services and access to adult dental care. In the meantime, we prioritize dental care for the following groups:

Unity Care NW is currently offering emergency dental care to anyone living in Whatcom County. If you are in pain or have swelling, call (360) 676-6177 to make an appointment. Please bring a list of medications you are currently taking to your appointment.

We recommend that your child begin seeing a dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears, whichever is first.
The Unity Care NW mobile dental program provides routine dental care at elementary and middle schools, Head Start programs, and daycare centers throughout Whatcom County. Mobile Dental Program staff provide exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and oral hygiene instruction.
